I just wanted to send out a message before we all get too caught up in the holiday spirit, this time next week I'll be in Hastings unwrapping presents with the kids!
Bridge at the club is now finished for the year with no holiday bridge this week. It was great to see so many players taking advantage of our new holiday bridge initiative that allows anyone to show up without a partner and be guaranteed a game. This initiative will continue when holiday bridge resumes in the new year with the first session on Friday January the 5th.
Later in January we have our annual Mini Congress on anniversary weekend and we would love for you to enter one of the events on this weekend. There are pairs events on the Saturday and Monday and teams on Sunday (and Monday if you make the finals). The Restricted Open Pairs that is played on the Saturday has actually been won by Intermediate players for the last three years so just shows you don't need to be an Open player to enter and do well!
In addition to getting people playing we also need people on standby in case we need to even any of the draws up. The other thing that we need is a caddy to run boards to the fast tables on the Sunday during the Teams event. Although it feels like late January is far off, it will be here in no time so it is good to keep these things front of mind! So if you are able to help with either of these things please let me know.
Finally, a Merry Christmas from myself and my family to you and yours. Have a fun-filled time with family and friends and don't forget to over indulge! Safe travels to all that are travelling around the country and I look forward to seeing you back at the bridge table in January.
Merry Christmas,
Mike Newton - President
